WHAT ARE INTERCULTURAL PARTHERSHIPS?

In 2020, an Intercultural Community Center was formed as an outcome of partnership in faith between two different congregations sharing a building: Christ Episcopal Church is a 160 year-old English-speaking congregation in Dearborn, MI, Mother of the Savior, is an Episcopal-Lutheran congregation and the first and only Arabic-speaking congregation in the Episcopal Church. It is comprised of first- and second-generation people from Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, and Jordan.

Funded by a generous grant from Trinity Wall Street, the infrastructure for a successful intercultural hub for networking is being developed, including a digital library to help others learn from our experiences as they form impactful intercultural partnerships in their own contexts.

We are intentional when we use the term “Intercultural”. By it we intend to describe communities in which there is a deep understanding and respect for all cultures.

Intercultural partnerships focus on creating an environment where the mutual exchange of ideas and cultural norms and the development of deep relationships are enabled, encouraged, and nurtured.

In an intercultural partnership, no one is left unchanged because everyone learns from one another and grows together.
