Poverty, God, Politics

God has made it possible in our time to dramatically reduce poverty in our country and worldwide, and U.S. Christianity has an important role to play in this great liberation. But the progress that is possible requires a shift in our nation’s political priorities. Americans are deeply divided on issues of poverty and inequality, with most White Christians opposed to public policies that reduce poverty. Change depends on action at the national and grassroots levels. This seminar, led by the Rev. Dr. David Beckmann, the Dean’s Advisor for Political and Economic Justice, will explore effective ways to connect Christian faith to the politics of poverty. David sees progress against poverty in recent decades as an experience of our loving God and cause for hope.
