Alumni Convocation 2021

Date: October 11, 2021

This week we celebrate our wonderful alumni as we prepare to welcome them “home” for Class Reunions and Alumni Convocation. The Class Stewards and the Alumni Association Executive Committee (AAEC) also hold their fall meetings on campus this week. After the 2019 year of campus construction and the 2020 year of COVID, it is a particular joy to welcome our alumni back to campus for in-person gatherings.

Monday evening is the reception and dinner for those classes celebrating reunion years, as well as for the Class Stewards. Tuesday is Convocation, featuring Donyelle McCray, Th.D. ’06, associate professor of homiletics at Yale University and former assistant professor of homiletics and director of Multicultural Ministries here at VTS.  Her talk on The Apostle Pauli is not to be missed! All are welcome and sign-ups are requested here.

Tuesday morning leads off with an update on Reparations efforts by our own Ebonee Davis, associate for Multicultural Ministries programming and historical research for Reparations. The day ends with the service of Academic Convocation Evensong, with AAEC President the Very Rev. Billy J. Alford ’92 preaching, and the awarding of honorary degrees. The full schedule can be found here.

We are very grateful to the student body for their thoughtful planning, ensuring students will be on hand to offer hospitality to our alumni as they return to campus – some visiting for the first time in years – eager to connect with our seminarians and to see the newly renovated campus spaces.

I encourage you to take advantage of and enjoy the opportunity to connect with our amazing alumni this week. My grateful thanks in advance for offering them our hallmark hospitality!

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President
