ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Join us for an in-depth symposium focused on the theological insights of the Rev. Shawn Strout’s, Ph.D groundbreaking new book, Bound Together: Baptism, Eucharist, and the Church. This gathering will explore the profound interconnections between baptism, the Eucharist, and ecclesial life, as Dr. Strout’s work delves into the significance of these sacraments for identity and community within the Episcopal tradition.
Through discussions led by theological scholars, church leaders, and the author himself, we will examine the theological implications of communion practices—especially the questions surrounding whether baptism is necessary for participation in the Eucharist. This gathering will be convened by the Rev. James Farwell, Ph.D. and will include scholars from around the Episcopal Church, such as the Rt. Rev. Neil Alexander, Th.D., the Rev. Canon Lizette Larson-Miller, Ph.D., and the Revs. Paul Fromberg, D.Min., Robert McSwain, Ph.D., and Katherine Sonderegger, Ph.D. This symposium will engage attendees in the rich history, complex theology, and ongoing debates on sacramental participation, grounding these discussions in an Episcopal perspective.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This symposium is ideal for clergy, lay leaders, seminarians, and anyone interested in sacramental theology or Episcopal liturgical practice. Whether you’re engaged in church leadership, theological study, or simply intrigued by the relationship between baptism and Eucharist, this event offers valuable insights and fosters meaningful dialogue on these core aspects of Christian faith and practice.
