Yesterday, Vice President Ballou and I met with the Administrative Personnel Committee (APC). This is the vehicle that enables the staff in the Seminary to discuss questions with the administration. Ms. Rachel Holm and Mr. Terrell Whitaker discussed with us a range of issues. We talked about staff morale; we looked at alternative vehicles of communication, including the idea of a staff roundtable; and we discussed the venture with General Seminary. Views were explained; issues were discussed.
It was a rich and interesting conversation. Our community needs spaces where employees can raise issues and outline their perception. One drawback of this pandemic season is that all the normal casual vehicles of communication are not available. No longer do I have a walk with an employee back to Aspinwall Hall; no longer can I stand in the lunch line and check in with someone who has responsibility for this or that project; and we don’t have the opportunity to have coffee or lunch together in the way that we use to.
Please be assured I always welcome the conversation. Different perspectives are always welcome. All voices are welcome.
