The Alumni Association Executive Committee (AAEC) is the elected executive body of the Alumni Association of Virginia Theological Seminary. As President of AAEC, I have the privilege of serving alongside a group of talented and dedicated alumni who comprise the AAEC, and together we represent and seek to support the 3,200+ VTS alumni around the globe.
The AAEC serves as a channel of communication between the Seminary and the Alumni Association, representing the views and experiences of alumni to the Seminary leadership, faculty, and staff. The AAEC also works closely with the Alumni and Church Relations office, to help strengthen alumni connections to each other and to the Seminary, and to support alumni in their ministries. This is accomplished through programs such as Alumni Convocation, Regional Chapters, and other networking and learning opportunities.
The 2021 Alumni Convocation on October 12, 2021, will feature keynoter Dr. Donyelle McCray ’06, Associate Professor of Homiletics at Yale Divinity School. Dr. McCray has published The Censored Pulpit: Julian of Norwich as Preacher, which offers a homiletical reading of Julian’s life and ministry, and attends to the relationship between preaching, embodiment, and authority. She is currently at work on a publication examining the preaching and spirituality of the Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray.
This week’s Commentaries will be written by several AAEC members, who will reflect on their time at VTS and on their ministry. The impact the Seminary has on the Church is largely through the ministries of our alumni, and we welcome the opportunity to highlight some of them this week.
