Almost all of us live life surrounded by noise. The radio goes on in the car; the walk is surrounded by music from our iPhone to our earbuds; the TV keeps us company when we are in our room or in the apartment. Noise is our constant companion.
Twice a year, we invite our seminarians into a day of quiet. We are going to hear the silence of the spaces around us. The sound of the wind in the trees and the hum of the AC in our rooms are going to be present. And our thoughts are going to shift to deep encounters with ourselves (our worries, fears, and anxieties) and with God (the source of all and the agent of love that seeks to be with us).
Naturally, it is a normal workday for employees. Please understand when a seminarian passes in silence; they are not being rude; they are simply entering the space of silence. And may God walk alongside us all during this special day.
