A Hymn-sing with C. Michael Hawn

Date: November 3, 2026

Come lift your voice and sing while you await the results of the midterms. Join us tonight at 7:00 p.m. in Addison 201 for “Singing a Global Faith,” a hymn-sing led by Dr. C. Michael Hawn. This is a chance to sing songs of faith from churches around the world, guided by one of the leading voices in global congregational song. No experience is needed — just bring your voice and your curiosity.

Dr. Hawn is University Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Church Music at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he retired in 2017 after 25 years on the faculty of Perkins School of Theology. He has received numerous fellowships for the study of global hymnody and worship, has conducted research and taught in forty countries, and has published over 400 articles and books. His work includes Gather into One: Praying and Singing Globally, in which he explores five of the most influential global church musicians found in North American hymnals, from Argentina, Taiwan, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Scotland.

Dr. Hawn’s leadership has taken him to worship gatherings around the world. In 2006 he was music director for the Ninth Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and in 2008 he was elected Fellow of the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada. Many also know him as the editor and most frequent writer of the “History of Hymns” column, which he began in 2004. Don’t miss this evening of song and story!
