Today we celebrate a truly remarkable achievement. Senior Vice President Michael DeLashmutt, dean of chapel at The General Theological Seminary, has gifted us with a thoughtful and delightful new book: A Lived Theology of Everyday Life: Encountering God in Work, Play, and Culture.
This elegant work shines on several levels. Theologically, it offers real depth—his explanation of Paul Tillich’s Method of Correlation is particularly outstanding. Practically, it is deeply relevant, guiding the reader through themes such as sport, the environment, work, play, and even administration. And personally, it is moving, as Michael shares glimpses of his own story—telling us about his father’s John Deere tractor dealership in Iowa and the adventure of moving with Julia to Glasgow.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and commend it to you. Buy it here. It is an important reminder that loving God must reach beyond Sunday worship and permeate Monday—and every day that follows. In this vital conversation, Michael is emerging as a compelling and insightful voice. Congratulations, Michael, on this wonderful accomplishment.
