What a remarkable year we have had at Virginia Theological Seminary. We graduated another class of students who spent the year in virtual learning spaces but remarkably were able to have an in-person outdoor graduation ceremony with the Presiding Bishop, Michael B. Curry as their commencement speaker. On that day the grounds were gorgeous, the weather delightful, and for the first time in a long time you could hear laughter in the air. All around us we were reminded of the beauty and grace of God.
As we move toward summer, we are so grateful that so many of our employees have been able to receive the COVID vaccine and are growing increasingly comfortable with being on campus and participating in in-person meetings. We are pleased that staff and faculty are fully returning to campus preparing to receive students in August. The Flamingo and 1823 patio will remain open throughout the summer and we are gradually starting to host more guests on campus. We are forming new norms on the Holy Hill and we are grateful for a flexible and adaptable staff that is constantly striving for EXCELLENCE!
This week and next you will hear from some extraordinary leaders in Finance, Administration and Operations. In their own words they will share perspectives that I hope you will find informative and insightful. So, on this Monday, I share with you the following:
“Here on the pulse of this new day
You may have the grace to look up and out
And into your sister’s eyes,
And into your brother’s face,
And say simply
With hope –
~ Maya Angelou
