Academic writing and a faith journey

Date: October 30, 2024

At VTS we have a range of research seminars – these are vehicles for the sharing of chapters of a research project. One joy of the research seminar is that Faculty can invite a conversation partner from another institution. So, from time to time, we have professors from UVA or from Duke or from other consortium institutions.

I would love to see more involvement of the GTS faculty in research seminars. It is my intention to start something similar at GTS. Meanwhile, I hope VTS faculty might consider inviting some of our GTS faculty to their research seminars.

These musings were all provoked by an extraordinary piece of writing by the Rev. Dr. Michael DeLashmutt, who teaches theology at GTS. It is found in Earth and Altar; you can read it here. The article documents his journey from the Pentecostal Associate Pastor to skepticism to rediscovering faith through the writings of Rowan Williams. On the way, he shares the extraordinary impact of one particular chapter on the resurrection by Rowan Williams. It is a lovely piece of writing. Thank you for writing it Michael.
