Accreditation Visit

Date: March 17, 2025

The headline might give some people in the VTS community some concern. But just to reassure you, I am not referring to a visit to VTS. Our work in this respect is over. Instead, I am heading out for four days to be the chair of an ATS visit at another Seminary.

Accreditation is important. It is peer assessment. So, people who know how hard theological education can be visit each other’s schools to ensure that we are delivering a quality educational experience. I have been on several visits. And each time, I learn a little more about how to do this work well.

Accreditation is important. We need a mechanism that guarantees quality and recognition. The world needs to know that a degree from an accredited institution is a solid, rigorous, education.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
