Alexandria Mayor and City Council Elections

Date: May 17, 2021

At Virginia Theological Seminary, we are interconnected with our wider city. Its life and its policies shape our community, and as a cultural and religious center, we play our part in helping shape Alexandria. As the prophet Jeremiah told the Israelites years ago, we “seek the welfare of the city” where we are.

We encourage members of the VTS community to vote in the upcoming primary for Mayor and City Council of Alexandria. Major issues facing local government include affordable housing, equity initiatives, road safety, and transportation. For those who aren’t registered to vote in Alexandria, it’s not too late—today is the last day to register! Voting has started and runs through June 8.

Because Alexandria tends to be overwhelmingly Democratic, the Mayor and City Council candidates that win the Democratic primary on June 8 tend to win in the November election. This makes the June 8 primary particularly important for the Mayor and City Council.
