The lecture delivered by Professor Jon Meacham was amazing. He was funny and relevant. He demonstrated his vast knowledge of President Abraham Lincoln and his relevance to our contemporary moment. Dr. Hannah Matis provided an introduction, which was perfect, and managed the questions with skill.
Then we conferred on Professor Meacham the Dean’s Cross. The service of Lessons and Carols was sublime. It is one of those moments in a church year that I am just grateful to be present. The music is the achievement; the lessons are from Scripture; and the whole experience is just beautiful. It was divine.
This was one of the bicentennial events. As we make the journey to our 200th year, the challenge is our appropriate engagement with our history. It was a joy of having a historian to reflect on President Lincoln, which was a key season that the Seminary lived through.
