Research is one of those core tasks of a graduate school. Faculty who write books, attract Lilly grants, and push forward the frontiers of knowledge are essential in a good graduate school. Faculty who do this will be better teachers; it will mean that students know they are learning from a scholar who is on top of the literature in their field.
The latest issue of the magazine is exceptional. It tells the story of a research productive faculty. As you read the stories in this issue, you will understand why this or that professor is not around; you will understand why the sabbatical is important. This productivity requires time. One needs to read, think, and write – all time-consuming activities. It is an extraordinary issue that tells a remarkable story.
This issue of VTS Magazine will sadly be the last one created by our lead design contractor, Mari Foret, who is retiring. Since 2014, Mari has been an invaluable partner in maintaining and elevating our brand. Working with nearly all of the departments here at VTS on brochures, flyers, photos, and magazines, Mari brings a keen, professional eye and over 25 years of experience to this work. Since 2018, she has worked closely with Curtis Prather, our director of communications and marketing, to overhaul the magazine. The result has been very impressive. We will miss her; we thank her for her sharing her expertise with us.
