Anticipating this week

Date: September 23, 2024

This week is significant for three reasons. The first is that we have a Quiet Day tomorrow. In the end this place is a place of formation. We want God to work on human lives to enable people to grow into persons who can bring Christ to the world. This Quiet Day is a space for God to do some of the work. The second is the visit of the Rev. Jim Wallis on Thursday evening. Jim Wallis a highly regarded voice in the Church and the political world. It is a real opportunity to learn from him. And third we have the Philanthropy Summit. This is your opportunity to learn about the art of fundraising.

It is a full week. In so far as you able, I do recommend that you take advantage of these opportunities. The joy of Virginia Theological Seminary is not simply the formal classes, but what is called the “extracurricular” programming. Often it is these extra opportunities that are the most memorable. I suspect that this will be true of this week.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of The General Theological Seminary
