Back in the Classroom

Date: September 9, 2021

Tuesday was a good day. At least, it was for me. We began the day with a community Eucharist, where we shared a meal and focused afresh on God. Then classes started up. I had the joy of teaching two 1.5 credit classes in succession. Leaving aside that I wasn’t sure what time the first class finished (oops), it was lovely to enjoy presence once again. Difficult questions were explored; hands were raised; thoughts were shared. The learning process was now happening. Then lunch was lovely. The weather was beautiful. One joy of colleagues taking a sabbatical is that I have the privilege of working closely with staff in Finance and Lifelong Learning. So in the afternoon, I enjoyed the chance to learn about the hard work happening in this place.

As I reflected on the day, I was reminded afresh that a day in a pandemic can still be a good day. Although it remains true that there is a deadly virus circulating in our world and masks are required, there are still days when so much that is good happens. Tuesday for me was one such day. I hope it was for you, too. And when these days happen, do pause, notice, and give thanks.
