Pilgrimages are very much part of our curriculum for the formation of leaders, lay and ordained. A pilgrimage becomes a community of faithful people who gather together to journey to “thin places.” Last May “Gothic France” was a joint effort of VTS, the American Cathedral in Paris and the Rt. Rev. Mark D. W. Edington, Bishop in Charge of the Episcopal Congregations in Europe.
In September there was a Bicentennial Pilgrimage to England, “Grace & Gardens in England’s ‘green and pleasant land.’ “ The bookends of what turned out to be a historic time were Her Majesty’s death on September 8 and the State Funeral on September 19. It was an unforgettable pilgrimage.
Currently, the Rev. J. Barney Hawkins IV, Ph.D. Is leading two back-to-back pilgrimages in Israel and Jordan. Co-leading the first pilgrimage is the Rev. N. Luke Back, rector of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Lake Forest, Illinois.
Two pilgrimages are still open for 2023. Please do consider:
Epiphany in the Holy Land, January 7-18, 2023
Biblical Sites in Turkey, March 13-April 1, 2023
