Bishop Bud Shand in northern Virginia

Date: February 5, 2024

Bishop Shand is well known to the Virginia Theological Seminary community. He was a student here, graduating with a Master’s in Christian Education. When he was Bishop of Easton, he was on the Board of Trustees. When Bishop Peter Lee retired, Bishop Shand became the Board Chair.

He was the Board Chair during the building of the Immanuel Chapel. He supported the Seminary as we handled the loss of our chapel and sought to find an alternative venue for worship. He also supported the Seminary as we moved into fundraising mode to build a new chapel, and through it all, he was a good friend and mentor.

The Bishop of Virginia, Bishop Mark Stevenson, has asked Bud (as he is known to everyone) to be a pastoral presence in northern Virginia. Last week, my wife and I had a delightful visit with Bud and his wife Lynne. It was lovely to catch up. We are looking forward to having him nearby.
