There is always significant business for the November Board meeting. We have to receive the Audit Report. There are honorary degrees to vote; sabbatical reports to receive. Lots of items need to be voted.
This Board meeting, however, is different. Our guests from General Theological Seminary will have their own Board meeting. They also have important business to transact. Both Boards are thinking about the design and direction of both institutions in the light of the affiliation. These are exciting times.
I do admire the Trustees of both institutions. These strategic decisions are complex and tricky. The temptation is to decide to “stick with the status quo because change will be difficult”. To the credit of both Boards, they resisted that temptation and are ready to think of doing theological education differently. For this, I am grateful.
