As the Board meeting finishes, there are, of course, some significant decisions. And the one I want to share today is the exciting news that on July 1, 2022, Dr. Lisa Kimball will become our new Vice President for Lifelong Learning. Dr. Kimball is an extraordinary asset to the Seminary. She has attracted significant grant income that supports lay people, smaller congregations, and now, potentially, parenting and home formation. She oversees a vital part of the Seminary which engages with the cyber world and weaves together everything from the TryTank to Christian Formation. Literally thousands of people are impacted by her hard work. We are deeply grateful for her witness and presence at Virginia Theological Seminary.
It is wonderful that I can make this announcement on the day of Commencement. Many Dr. Kimball themes are captured in this moment. As an institution, we have been shaped by Kimball themes such as: we are “sending our graduates out,” we seek to support congregational leadership where the lay are front and center, and we want to see the Church as a vehicle of energetic witness and outreach. On this day, we trust that the work of this place has made a difference. Lives have been touched. And we are confident that God will use these graduates to further God’s kingdom.
Congratulations Class of 2022.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
