The Bicentennial afforded countless opportunities to enjoy music, art, and theater. Countless students, faculty, and friends of the Seminary pleaded with me to make sure that this does not simply end with the celebration of the Historic Bicentenary in October 2023. So, I am pleased to announce that VTS is hosting an amazing opera experience.

It was Samantha Rose Williams (and allow me to celebrate the achievement of children of faculty who grow up on this campus – it is amazing how well they do) who is the creative producer and performer. Sam earned her BA at Stanford University and a Master’s from the University of Michigan. American Patriots works with marginalized communities and affords an opportunity for their voice to be heard: it takes their unaltered words and creates lyrics and combines this with visual projections. During the evening, three contrasting perspectives will be explored: African-American, Native American, and white Working-Class American. As the Stanford Arts Review noted, “Williams had me crying before I knew what was happening at least three times with her jaw-dropping vocal power and earnest portrayal of doubt, hope, and resilience.”

Performances will take place in the Immanuel Chapel, 3737 Seminary Road, Alexandria, at 7pm on Thursday March 14, Friday March 15 and Saturday March 16. Tickets are $20 each. Use the promo code DISCOUNT5 for a $5 ticket for Thursday’s open dress rehearsal.
