Come and Sing!

Date: August 4, 2021

Christianity is a singing faith, and embodied worship is one of the things we’ve missed the most during the pandemic. It has been seventeen months since I’ve played a hymn for congregational singing, and I can’t wait! As you saw in Dr. Strout’s commentary yesterday, we are planning a full range of liturgical and musical offerings this year. It is a new beginning, a fresh start for each of us and for our community.

I especially invite you to sing in the Seminary Choir. The choir is open to all adult members of the VTS community – students, spouses/partners, faculty, and staff. Rehearsals meet on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. starting September 13. We will sing for the Holy Eucharist on Wednesdays at 8:15 a.m. with a warmup rehearsal immediately prior.

All are welcome – no audition required! During the first few weeks of the semester, we will meet for small group voice checks, where we will vocalize, discuss good vocal health, and assess the best section placement for each singer.

Choir participation provides practical skills for parish ministry, as well as spiritual growth and the joy of making music with others. Through Seminary Choir, you will experience the beauty and breadth of the Church’s musical tradition. Together, we will rediscover the power of music to enliven prayer and enrich worship.

Please contact me with any questions or for more information. Come and Worship!
