Commencement Day

Date: May 9, 2024

The classes have been taught; the papers graded; hundreds of chapel services attended; numerous meals consumed; many a moment of laughter with friends; and the inevitable questions, doubts, and of course occasions of sadness shared. And suddenly (and it almost always feels like “suddenly”) graduation is upon us. This season for our graduates is over.

Transitions are an important part of life. Temporality means that nothing stands still. Each moment is a gift from God. We should seize those moments and put them to good use.

Today is Commencement Day. Families and friends gather. Regardless of the weather, this will be a day of joy. May God bless our graduates as they “go into all the world to preach the Gospel”.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of The General Theological Seminary
