Congratulations to the Rev. Lorenzo Lebrija

Date: March 13, 2024

This is the season when there are many doctoral students who are being examined so that they can graduate in May. And normally, given there are so many, their remarkable achievement is not recognized in a commentary. However, today, I am going to make an exception and lift up the achievement of the Rev. Lorenzo Lebrija.

Lorenzo is our Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Director of the TryTank Research Institute. He has also been working on a DMin. Yesterday he had his thesis defense; and his three examiners – Dr. Ross Kane, Dr. Lisa Kimball, and myself – met in Room 120 at 9am for his exam. It was a delightful occasion. Lorenzo had an imaginative intervention, with a solid theological grounding and a good research methodology. The examiners enjoyed exploring the issues with Lorenzo.

No one has a degree at Virginia Theological Seminary until it is voted by the Board upon recommendation from the Faculty. This will happen in May. And at that point, we will all enjoy saying to Lorenzo, “congratulations Dr. Lebrija”.
