I want to honor our senior Dr. Laura Natta and give thanks for her continued good work in the Jesus movement. Although not her sending diocese, Laura had the opportunity to work with the Diocese of Minnesota this past summer and have built a strong relationship with them. She was given the endowed Fontaine sermon award by St. Mark’s Cathedral in Minneapolis and was invited to preach this month.
Rev. Canon William P. Donovan created the award to promote models of good preaching that embody the preacher’s personality and depth as part of the Christian story. Ultimately, Canon Donovan wants a sermon that is “walking around in the world on two legs”. I cannot agree more. I highly encourage you to go to the Cathedral’s YouTube page and watch Laura’s sermon. Her prophetic voice full of vibrant energy captures you into clarity and curiosity. It’s incredible.
Thank you, Laura, for your commitment to shine your light wherever you go. What a blessing it is to have your gifts and your presence in this world and with us here at VTS. Thank you for inspiring us to not turn away hopeless but to remain passionate and focused.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President
