Election Day Today

Date: November 3, 2025

Virginia Theological Seminary encourages those eligible to vote to exercise their right to vote. We take the view that this basic involvement in civic life is important. A vote has as much value as anyone else’s vote. A vote is an opportunity to ensure that candidates reflect the values of the Church. We encourage people to vote.

Virginia, along with New Jersey, New York, and California, is among the states that have major elections. In Virginia, we have gubernatorial and legislative elections. My wife and I took advantage of the early in-person voting option and have both done our democratic duty. If you are voting locally, then I encourage you to find some time today to go and vote.

Many of us will monitor the results as they come in. Let us be appropriate and disciplined in our response to these elections. Remember, God has seen many moments come and go; the eternal perspective invites us always to focus on what really matters.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of The General Theological Seminary.
