Ever dream of helping shape an Episcopal church that looks and acts like Jesus? Find out about the work of the Episcopal Evangelism Society (EES). Since 1862, EES has financially supported members of Episcopal seminary communities in their exploration to serve the church and the world in thoughtful and innovative ways. Although the mission and ministry of EES continues to adapt to an ever-changing Episcopal landscape, the current ministry of EES centers around awarding grants to seminarians, faculty, staff and their spouses and partners to implement ministry projects that will help develop a culture of evangelism in their respective vocations.
The VTS community has been a vital part of EES for decades, with many members of the community receiving grants while others offer their gifts of leadership on the EES board. The Rev. Philip DeVaul (‘10) and Dr. Lisa Kimball serve on the Board of Directors of EES. Current grantees from VTS include Tom Conroy, Dana Jean, and alumna The Rev. Laura Natta. Newly appointed incoming Executive Director, The Very Rev. Troy Mendez (‘09), as well as the current outgoing Executive Director Ms. Day Smith Pritchartt (‘99) both have long histories of leadership with Virginia Theological Seminary as well.
You may read more about EES grants here and watch a short video here. EES Executive Directors Troy Mendez and Day Smith Prichartt arrived yesterday and will be on campus all day today, in the Refectory for lunch and in the Flamingo. Their purpose is to meet you and help brainstorm the possibilities for new ministries. EES is committed to individual coaching for grant applicants, so please stop by and ask them any questions you may have. Application deadlines are in September and in February each year. Check out how EES can help you imagine possibilities for yourself, for the church, and for a world that hungers for Christ’s love now more than ever before.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
