Dr. David Ford started the journey of his Costan Lectures for 2022 last night. It was extraordinary. The argument was the particular outlook of the Gospel of John can speak to our cultural moment. This is the Gospel that invites us to encounter the person of Christ; this is the Gospel that makes the themes life, love, truth, and the Holy Spirit central; this is the Gospel that deliberately engages with the Greco-Roman world and therefore engages with the pluralism of modernity; and this is the Gospel that makes the quest for the truth front and center.
Under the title “The Wonder of Living: A Johannine Renaissance in the Twenty-first Century?”, Dr. Ford will explore the person of Jesus in tonight’s lecture. Set in the beautiful Bicentennial Hall, it truly is an encounter with an highly original theological mind engaging deeply with the rich text of Scripture.
Do feel free to enjoy us tonight. This will make you think differently about the Gospel of John and its implication for the age in which we live.
