Facilities Department Spotlight

Date: May 26, 2021

The Facilities Department would like to congratulate 2021’s graduating seniors. We were truly blessed to have a fantastic outdoor ceremony. I can’t mention the Commencement ceremony without thanking the amazing people who helped plan, organize, and put it into action. Commencement is a milestone event that honors students for their academic work. Unfortunately, it is also a marker for the beginning of departures of friends we have made over the years.

The campus can feel empty over the summer, but during this time the Facilities Department is very active. We must prepare for returning students and for new members of the VTS community. As soon as buildings become available, Facilities will perform scheduled preventive maintenance and capital projects.

Capital projects range from in-house work to large contracted projects. This summer we will oversee a major heating and cooling piping replacement project at Moore Hall. We will turn over 12 Family Housing apartments for new students that will arrive in early August.

The Grounds department is busy aerating the soil, spreading fertilizers, spreading soil amendments, watering, and overseeing the BrightView landscaping contract.

All this work gets us excited for a new academic year and to welcome new friends to Virginia Theological Seminary.
