Today and tomorrow, Six Half Dozen will be filming the Rev. Dr. Barney Hawkins and me. We will begin in the Chapel, where together we will discuss the building of the chapel—how the architect was chosen, the significance of the windows, and the importance of the pew in the oratory. We will then move to the Welcome Center, and in the afternoon we will visit the library. Tomorrow, we will film in Scott Lounge and the Refectory. The idea is simple: to ensure that we preserve a record of all the thought and care that went into the renovation of the campus during the Chapel for the Ages campaign and the Bicentennial Campaign. At the heart of all that work was Barney Hawkins.
Please do say hello as we walk around campus. It is a joy to have Barney back at VTS. His legacy is considerable, and I am deeply grateful for his continuing support of the Seminary.
Ensuring that institutions remember is part of the obligation of the present. It is easy to forget, for example, that the Incarnation window represents the first instance of refracted light ever captured in stained glass. Tomorrow we are doing our part to make sure the record endures.
