Yesterday I viewed the recording. It is outstanding. The music is really good; even with all the musicians behind masks and physically distanced. The acoustics of our chapel work so well for singing, even in these conditions. It is lovely to see the class of 2020 given due prominence. The D.Min. recipients are all recognized; each one has sent in a picture appropriately posed with their D.Min. certificate. And then there are thirty minutes of honorary degree presentations. Different faculty members read each citation, followed by the recipient’s response. The result is a service full of the stars of the academy and the church. I am, of course, describing our Dean’s Cross Service, which will be broadcast on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. You can access the recording through our website (look for a link on our homepage). As I watched the recording I found myself grateful. Many hands were involved in this beautiful arrangement. It would take too much space to list all the names; therefore, please allow me to focus on just four who were pivotal: for the music, Dr. Marty Burnett; for the degree lists, the Rev. Dr. Shawn Stout; for video recording, Mr. Duane Lomis; and for organizing the video and ensuring quality control, Mr. Curtis Prather. The result is a testimony to their hard and careful work. Thank you. I promise you this is a service which will truly prepare you for Christmas. It is beautiful. So create some space in your life and make sure you watch the recording.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
