Giving to St. George’s College, Jerusalem

Date: January 3, 2024

It was a lovely moment. I was coming out of the pew at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Old Town Alexandria on the New Year’s Eve service, when I was stopped by Ms. Barbara Warder, the Treasurer for the fundraising arm of St. George’s College, Jerusalem. “Thank you” she said, “the gifts from your appeal just keep pouring in.”

It was Vice President Linda Dienno who suggested that VTS should do this. When COVID hit, we did a similar exercise: we asked our friends to give to St. George’s College and Kanuga Conference Center – as their income streams suddenly collapsed. With the continuing war in Gaza, St. George’s College is, once again, struggling. As a Seminary, during our Bicentennial Campaign, we were constantly asking Rectors to share their donors with us: we are just paying that forward: we want our donors to give to St. George’s College.

St. George’s College is a precious gift in the Anglican Communion. It is an entity committed to learning and pilgrimage. Thousands have been impacted by their courses. If you have not already given, then please do so now. You can do so here: let us all ensure the mission of St. George’s continues into the future.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of The General Theological Seminary
