Grading papers, getting grades in

Date: May 3, 2023

It is that season again. Students are frantically finishing papers and getting them in. This,  in itself, is stressful. Meanwhile the Faculty are then obligated to grade the papers and get the grades in. For our seniors, the time crunch is serious. Grades are necessary to complete the transcript. One cannot be voted to graduate until all the grades are in.

Today the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees will meet. A key part of their work will be voting degrees (at this stage, there will be a rider to the motion that asserts ‘subject to fulfilling all the requirements for the degree’). All the requirements must be completed when they come to the Board.

But today, I want to honor the Faculty as they grade papers against a strict and uncompromising deadline. I am grateful for the care and dedication of my colleagues.
