Grateful for the Dean’s Cross Service

Date: December 13, 2021

Last night, Immanuel Chapel was a space of sublime Anglican liturgy and a moving celebration of ministry. We gathered for the Dean’s Cross service. It was exceptional. The music was glorious; the readings were read well; and the awards were a recognition of human lives lived fully.

Advent Lessons and Carols are a distinctly Anglican experience. There is such a simplicity in listening carefully to Scripture and then participating (by either listening or singing) in an appropriate Advent carol. One is invited to participate in the journey of salvation history – God’s engagement with humanity in the journey of love.

Putting together such an occasion is hard work. Today, I wish to honor and recognize the labor of Dr. Marty Burnett who was responsible for the music and the Rev. Dr. Shawn Strout, the Associate Dean of Chapel. Many hours went into the preparation of such a lovely occasion. For their hard work, I am grateful.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President
