Growing Through the Seasons: Learning, Leading, and Motherhood

Date: July 9, 2025

This summer, as I reflect on the journey I’ve been on, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of pride and perseverance. Balancing life as a full-time working mother of three is no small challenge but adding college coursework to the mix has taken that challenge to a new level.

I’m currently attending the University of Cincinnati, enrolled in a one-of-a-kind online degree program focused on nature-based early learning. This innovative program has not only deepened my understanding of child development in natural settings, but it has also sparked something new in me – curiosity, a renewed passion, and a strong sense of purpose.

When I first started the program, I remember nervously telling our assistant director, Shauna, “I don’t know if I’m going to finish this!” The thought of writing papers after bedtime routines, studying while my kids played at the park, or squeezing in discussion board post between work and life felt a bit overwhelming.

But here I am in my third semester, and something has shifted. I’ve started thinking, maybe I should just keep going. The words Dr. Sanchez echo in my head not just as a dream, but as a real possibility.

It’s not easy. Some days I feel stretched thin. But I’m showing my children that growth doesn’t stop with age or responsibility. I’m showing them what commitment looks like. And I’m learning, every day, how strong I really am.  And I am not alone; we have six other teachers in the Butterfly House who are pursuing higher education degrees or certificates. We are grateful for the Seminary’s support as we realize our dreams.

So, here’s to summer, a season of sunshine, sweat, and small victories. And here’s to every working parent out there chasing their dreams between potty training and deadlines. We’ve got this!
