Date: November 10, 2023
At VTS, we believe in marking anniversaries. Along with the Seminary’s 200th, we have marked the 20th anniversary of the African American Episcopal Historical Collection. Now, on Thursday November 16th, you have the opportunity to join in a celebration of women composers and poets as we mark the twentieth anniversary of the publication of Voices Found and the release of a new ecumenical hymnal supplement, Resounding Voices.
The Seminary Choir will lead us in singing of a variety of hymns under the direction of Marty Wheeler Burnett, D.Min., Associate Professor of Church Music and Director of Chapel Music. Thomas P. Smith, Assisting Chapel Musician, will be the organist.
Special guests for this evening include:
- Marilyn L. Haskel and Lisa Neufeld Thomas, editors of Voices Found
- Lyn Loewi, President of the Women’s Sacred Music Project
- Michael McMahon, Executive Director, The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada
This is an important anniversary. I am grateful that this occasion is happening. Thank you, especially to Marty, to those who are organizing this anniversary celebration.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of The General Theological Seminary
