In God’s Grip – the ideal Christmas gift

Date: November 15, 2023

As you start thinking about the gift giving season of Christmas, please allow me to suggest one gift for every golfer or ‘wannabe golfer’ in your life. Our alum, the Rev. Dr. Russ Levenson, has written an extraordinary meditation that draws parallels between faithful discipleship and the game of golf. “In God’s grip: What Golf can teach us about the Gospel” is an invitation to learn the lessons of life through the lessons of golf. It has everything we have come to expect from Russ – humor, wisdom, and a constant call to faithfulness grounded in Christ.
Every rector needs a collection of books that they give to the seeker, the skeptical parent of a child seeking baptism, and the parishioner who is struggling. Yes a gift from a Rector is often the most effective way to help someone to think seriously about who they are and what to do with God. People read books when the Rector gives them the book; most people think it is disrespectful to do otherwise – lingering guilt from childhood! This book is the perfect length, the perfect tone, and therefore the perfect gift.
I enjoyed reading the book; and I am sure you will too.
