In Memory of David Booth Beers

Date: April 5, 2022

Dinner with David Booth Beers was always delightful. He was funny, thoughtful, resolute, and sharp. He always had a story, illustration, a pointed question, a wry laugh, that made the conversation rich and memorable. On Sunday, he was received by the saints into glory. He leaves behind a significant legacy of service.

David Booth Beers was a long-time member of the Board of Trustees; he was a recipient of the Dean’s Cross for Servant Leadership. His academic journey was distinguished: he graduated from Trinity College and the University of California at Berkeley. Moving in 1961 to Washington DC, he started a distinguished legal career. He served as chancellor of the Diocese of Washington from 1977 until 1991; and then he was appointed by Presiding Bishop Edmond L. Browning as chancellor to the Presiding Bishop – service that continued through the tenure of four Presiding Bishops, finishing in 2019. We remember with gratitude the life of David; and we pray for his wife Peggy and his children.

Father of all, we pray to you for David, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
