With the affiliation with General Theological Seminary slowly taking shape, the Association of Theological Schools is visiting the campus to discuss with the leadership the impact of the affiliation on their degree programs. Vice Presidents Melody Knowles, Jacqui Ballou, and Linda Dienno are joining me in New York to discuss the affiliation with the ATS Representatives.
The goal of the affiliation is to create new and different options for theological education in our Church – a changed GTS for a changed Church. Naturally, there are plenty of continuities – an appropriate emphasis on the Benedictine ethos, liturgical life, and a deep commitment to formation. There are also differences – an opportunity to provide a low residency experience for those who cannot commit to a three year residential experience. We want a high quality educational experience to be available to all.
The next few days in New York are important. It will be an opportunity to think with our accreditation agency the best way to do this work. It is an honor to be serving at this exciting moment.
