Since being elected as President of General Theological Seminary, as well as Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary, today I am making my first trip to New York to address the faculty, staff, and students there.
It is an honor to be granted the opportunity to shape this remarkable institution. Back in 1991, I stayed for a semester at General Theological Seminary. I wrote the book Plurality and Christian Ethics, which came out with Cambridge University Press. It was an extraordinary time. I loved the city of New York; and I loved returning to the close with its beautiful charm. It was the moment when I fell in love with GTS.
The work at GTS will be one of reconstruction. It will take several years. We will start with this highly innovative high-quality, low-residency MDiv. Then slowly, as we work around the campus making it stunning, we will expand the program. I am looking forward to this opportunity.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
