I must admit I did enjoy Christopher Poore’s sermon on Monday. And as I was reflecting on the sermon, I did find myself impressed by many of the senior sermons. There is something special about standing in an Ambo from which the Archbishop of Canterbury (both Archbishop Justin and Lord Williams) and several Presiding Bishops (Presiding Bishops Curry, Jeffers Schori, and Griswold) have preached. This is the chance for the Senior to proclaim the Word.
I also like the practice of celebrating the task by the applause as the preacher leaves the Chapel. This is a tender and sweet moment.
It is always a reassuring time for me. We are sending forth preachers of the Word to serve and transform the world. The future Church will enjoy some truly great preachers.
