Looking Back at the Weekend

Date: April 28, 2026

Sometimes we just don’t realize how much is going on – and, in the process, how much we owe our catering team and our cleaning team.

This weekend was full. A dinner in the Deanery on Saturday night and, at the same time, a dinner for Christchurch in the Refectory. Starting on Friday and going through Sunday, we hosted a conference of major Native American tribes on the topic “Global Healing and Justice.” Then on Sunday afternoon, I had the joy of accidentally walking in on a youth orchestra practicing in Addison 201. And on Sunday evening, 200 people gathered in the Refectory for the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy’s “Growing Justice Gala.”

I take the view that space (and we have lots, all in such a lovely setting) should be used for the Gospel. All these events are mission-related. However, I am very aware that our small infrastructure of bookings, catering, and cleaning has to work hard. Today, we are grateful to them. Thank you.

Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of The General Theological Seminary.
