May at VTS

Date: May 30, 2023

At VTS May is always both a happy as well as a somewhat hurried month. So much planning comes into fruition and so many details come into play as courses are completed, diplomas are printed, and academic gowns are ordered. And it doesn’t end with commencement — the past two weeks have kept the faculty and AASL humming as final grades are calculated and recorded, annual reports are given, and course evaluations received.

Even as May is a month of completion, it is also a month of ramping up for the next academic chapter. The Doctoral office is getting everything in place for the residency, the Maintenance team is turning over apartments for the next occupants, and the planning for August term is ramping up.

At the end of this May, I’d like to particularly thank two people who have joined AASL this year to support student life and academic programming at VTS. I know that they have already been thanked in prior Dean’s Commentaries, but I would like to add my own words of particular thanks to Ms. Catrina Robinson and the Rev. Rachelle Sam. It has been a joy to work with these talented women, and to be inspired by their sense of vocation and dedication.

The Rev. Melody D. Knowles, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer
Associate Professor of Old Testament
Virginia Theological Seminary and General Theological Seminary
