In the hierarchy of publishing houses, the university presses are near the top. These books will not sell millions, but because of the rigorous peer review system, the quality of the books is always good. Academics in the same field are forced to engage with these books, and research libraries will make sure that they have a copy. So it is with delight that I celebrate the accomplishment of the Rev. Dr. Ross Kane. His Syncretism and Christian Tradition: Race and Revelation in the Study of Religious Mixture is now out from Oxford University Press. Dr. Joel Robbins from the University of Cambridge says of the book, “Exploring syncretism from genealogical, analytic, ethnographic, and theological points of view, Kane’s ambitious book will likely stand as the major work on this topic for at least a generation.” This is high praise indeed. The great joy of a Faculty that publishes books that other professors must read is that they are the teachers who share with the students the latest in their subject areas. Good research flows into exceptional teaching. Students can be confident that they are learning about the latest and most current scholarship. It is a privilege to have Dr. Kane on the VTS Faculty. And on this day, we congratulate him on this extraordinary accomplishment. The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D. Dean and President
