Date: November 9, 2020

Tomorrow at 12:45 p.m. I will be hosting a conversation with Presiding Bishop Michael Curry about his new book, Love is the Way: Holding on to Hope in Troubling Times. Joining me to interview Bishop Curry will be the award-winning journalist Ray Suarez. It is an honor that Virginia Theological Seminary is one of the stops on Bishop Curry’s “virtual book tour” for this timely publication, and I am grateful to the Center for Anglican Communion Studies for arranging this event.

By sharing stories from his childhood as the descendent of slaves and the son of civil rights activists, through his ordination, and on to the historic changes and events that have transpired since his election as the first African-American Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church, Bishop Curry illustrates why love is essential for addressing the seemingly insurmountable challenges facing the world today: poverty, racism, selfishness, deep ideological divisions, competing claims to speak for God.

Members of the VTS community have received a copy of Bishop Curry’s book by now; I hope you all have begun to read it. The conversation will be streamed live on the VTS YouTube channel and the CACS Facebook page, so wherever you are at 12:45 p.m. Eastern tomorrow I do hope you will join us online for what promises to be an inspiring conversation. The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D. Dean and President
