Music and Veterans Day

Date: November 11, 2021

I am not entirely sure how many veterans we have at the Seminary. I think among current students, there are six or so. I know among our alums there are many veterans who came and studied at the Seminary and are now in ministry. On this important day, November 11, we do pause and remember those who are veterans. And on this particular Veterans Day, I pause and honor all our seminarians and alums who served their country in the armed forces.

I am sure it wasn’t by design, but there is something beautiful about the visit of Dr. David Hurd on this day. Dr. Hurd is a musical giant in our Church. He served for 39 years as the professor of Sacred Music and director of Chapel Music at our sister seminary, General Theological Seminary, in New York. Tonight at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Hurt will give an organ recital, which will include selections from  Buxtehude’s Te Deum laudamus and the composer’s own Te Deum laudamus. It is a truly an honor to have Dr. Hurd with us on the campus.

Of all the ways, one could mark this Veterans Day, perhaps listening to a musical genius grace our Chapel would be a really good way. We are so pleased Dr. Hurd is with us.
