Music in Chapel

Date: April 4, 2024

As we ease into the Easter season, I do just want to thank the amazing team coordinating the music in Chapel – Mr. Jason Abel and Mr. Thomas Smith. I have worshiped in many buildings: but it is just true that the singing is just exceptional in our Chapel here on the campus.

Back in Lent, the daily singing of S-96 – the Kyrie eleison  by Franz Peter Schubert/arr. Richard Proulx – would go deep inside. I would often find myself still singing the Kyrie later in the day. And then on Holy Wednesday, the Kyrie moment was supplemented by an amazing rendition by the choir of Ave Verum Corpus – by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The moment brought tears to my eyes.

Yesterday in the Chapel I love the Alleluias by Robert Lau and the William Mathias Gloria in excelsis. And it was a joy to sing Dr. Marty Wheeler Burnett’s “Sanctus”. There was a beautiful magic to it all. So, once again, thank you Jason and Tom. You are both amazing.
