It was chilly. The “Ice Cream Cookie” truck wasn’t quite what the weather ordered. However, it was a good and important occasion. Last Saturday, Stephen Cook Ph.D., the Rev. Robert Flanagan ’03, D.Min. ’18 Ms. Michele Causton ’23, Ms. Vannessa McCormick, and Mr. Stephen Pecot ’23 organized the first annual “Out of the Darkness Campus Walk” at the Seminary. This was a walk for suicide awareness and prevention and was sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The walk raised over $13,000. But perhaps more importantly the walk reminded us all of the tragedy of suicide and the importance of making mental health and well-being a central priority. Suicide touches many families: it is important that we as a Seminary recognize this reality.
I am delighted that this is the first annual walk. This is important work; I am grateful to those who organized it. Thank you.
