Please support the GTS Annual Fund

Date: January 4, 2023

For readers of the VTS commentary, the subject line of this commentary will be a surprise. But this is the moment we are in. Our affiliation has a practical application: we want our friends, students, and faculty to add GTS to their giving priorities.

Last night, I had the privilege of making the case for GTS in Richmond VA. It was a fun evening. As I explained the complexity of the relationship (and yes it is complicated, especially legally), I took the opportunity to explain why GTS matters. The place matters – New York is an amazing city; the institution matters – GTS is older than VTS and is the Seminary of the General Convention; and the Gospel matters – if we want to make sure that Christianity and the Episcopal Church in particular survives then we need our institutions to survive.

So, for all these reasons, I would love every reader, right now, just to go to and make a gift. Support GTS please: let us keep this witness to our tradition in the most amazing city on the planet going. Thank you in anticipation.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and President of General Theological Seminary
