For readers of the VTS commentary, the subject line of this commentary will be a surprise. But this is the moment we are in. Our affiliation has a practical application: we want our friends, students, and faculty to add GTS to their giving priorities.
Last night, I had the privilege of making the case for GTS in Richmond VA. It was a fun evening. As I explained the complexity of the relationship (and yes it is complicated, especially legally), I took the opportunity to explain why GTS matters. The place matters – New York is an amazing city; the institution matters – GTS is older than VTS and is the Seminary of the General Convention; and the Gospel matters – if we want to make sure that Christianity and the Episcopal Church in particular survives then we need our institutions to survive.
So, for all these reasons, I would love every reader, right now, just to go to www.gts.edu and make a gift. Support GTS please: let us keep this witness to our tradition in the most amazing city on the planet going. Thank you in anticipation.
